Christ Salvator Mundi

The Christ Salvator Mundi is an 18-karat yellow gold christening medal depicting Jesus face on, blessing with one hand and holding in the other the globe surmounted by the cross: the Saviour of the world.

A Christ who blesses and who holds the world

Jesus is seen face on, his gaze slightly turned, long hair, a short beard, beneath a halo adorned with scrollwork and marked with the cross. His right hand is raised, two fingers extended, in the gesture of blessing; his left hand holds a globe surmounted by a cross, the world he saves and carries. The tunic, closed with an embroidered collar, and the outer tunic cross in broad folds. Salvator Mundi, Saviour of the world, has been the name of this image since the late Middle Ages; Flemish and Italian painters fixed it, and the painting attributed to Leonardo da Vinci remains its most famous version. Our sculptor kept its frontality and its two gestures, in a relief rich down to the detail of the halo.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, the Christ Salvator Mundi is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, the only technique that renders the scrollwork of the halo and the detail of the hands with such crispness, then given a satin finish. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm and 2.90 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.

Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The Christ Salvator Mundi is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver, in silver and mother-of-pearl and in gold plate, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
