How to care for your jewellery
Caring for your jewellery helps preserve its shine and beauty over time. Delicate materials such as gold, silver, mother-of-pearl or vermeil require appropriate care to ensure their longevity and allow you to enjoy them to the full.
18-karat gold
No particular recommendation. Enjoy wearing your jewellery, it will reward you! The more you wear your piece, the more it will develop a natural patina over time, making it truly yours and unique.
Solid silver
At Manufacture Mayaud, all our 925/1000 silver jewellery is solid and rhodium-plated. Each piece is dipped in a rhodium bath to protect it from oxidation. In other words, our silver jewellery does not tarnish.
Natural mother-of-pearl
We have chosen to work with superior-quality, 100% natural mother-of-pearl. Mother-of-pearl is an organic material, prized for its iridescent beauty and its softness to the touch. It therefore requires particular care to preserve its beauty.
1. Avoid excessive humidity: Mother-of-pearl can be sensitive to moisture. Avoid wearing your mother-of-pearl jewellery when bathing (shower, swimming pool or sea) or in the presence of steam. This would cause excessive sweating, which would harm the longevity of your mother-of-pearl.
2. Protect it from chemicals: Chemical products such as perfumes, make-up or any other cosmetics can dull the shine of your mother-of-pearl and give it a more or less yellowish tint.
3. Store it carefully: Keep your jewellery away from humidity, in a dry place and preferably on its own. Jewellery boxes are "tempting", but the constant knocking of other jewellery against the mother-of-pearl may damage it.
4. Clean it gently: If you wish to clean your mother-of-pearl, we recommend using lukewarm water and a soft cloth.
By following these recommendations, your mother-of-pearl jewellery will keep its beauty and shine over time.
