Virgin Virgo Virginum Medal
Virgo Virginum is an 18-karat yellow gold christening medal depicting the Virgin Mary in profile, a bouquet of lilies in her hand, her Latin title engraved within the halo.
A Virgin Mary with a bouquet of lilies
Mary is seen in profile, turned to the right, a veil resting on her hair and falling in soft folds over her shoulder. In her hand, before her, she holds a small bouquet of lilies in full bloom. Around her head, the halo is not a simple line: it bears, engraved in capital letters, the inscription VIRGO VIRGINUM, Virgin of virgins, one of the titles given to her in the Litany of Loreto. The lily takes up the same theme, that of purity. The smooth background leaves this portrait the clarity of a medallion.
A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold
Like all our gold medals, Virgo Virginum is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, which gives the letters of the halo their crispness and the face its relief, then given a satin finish. The gold weight is 2.95 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.
Engraving and variations
Offered in 18 mm, the classic size for a christening medal, the one worn for a lifetime. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. Virgo Virginum is available in gold and mother-of-pearl and in solid silver, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
