Saint-Denis Cathedral Rosette
The Saint-Denis Cathedral Rose Window is crafted in natural jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl and rimmed in 18-karat gold.
The basilica of Saint-Denis was the first building to be given a rose window above a central portal. This marvellous rose was conceived by Abbot Suger, adviser to kings, between 1135 and 1144.
The basilica and its incredible rose window are essential works of Gothic art. The light, symbol of the Divine, that floods the Cathedral of the Kings through the majestic rose window is striking.
We could not help devoting endless time to making a rose window medal in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl and 750/1000 gold in tribute to this basilica, last resting place of the Kings and Queens of France.
The rose of Saint-Denis, cradle of Gothic, in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl
Saint-Denis is where Gothic architecture was born: here Abbot Suger opened the walls to the light, and from this rose descend all those of Chartres, Reims or Notre-Dame de Paris. On the medal, our sculptor transposed its radiating design: a heart from which spring twelve stone spokes, a first ring of trefoil lancets, then an outer ring of quatrefoils, out to the gold rim. Every element is carved in mother-of-pearl, whose translucency renders the light Suger wanted to bring into his church. The basilica, necropolis of the kings of France since Dagobert, holds more than seventy recumbent effigies; this Saint-Denis rose window medal is its memory worn at the neck.
The know-how of Mayaud rose windows
Manufacture Mayaud is the only workshop in the world to make cathedral rose windows in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl. Each rose window takes many hours of work: the tracery is drawn from the rose itself, then carved and engraved in mother-of-pearl at the scale of a medal, without simplifying anything. It is a complex know-how, developed in our Paris workshop, of which we are very proud, and which we inaugurated with the Notre-Dame de Paris rose window, the first ever offered in mother-of-pearl and 750/1000 gold. Registered design filed with the INPI, 100% made in France.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Saint-Denis rose window medal be engraved? Yes: the reverse of the mother-of-pearl is smooth and takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package.
Which diameter to choose? The 20 mm for a christening or a child, the 22 or 24 mm for everyday wear, the 26 mm to read the tracery in all its fineness, as a pendant.
What makes the Mayaud rose window unique? We are the only workshop in the world to carve cathedral rose windows in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl, rimmed in 18-karat gold, in Paris; every model is a registered design filed with the INPI.
