The Baptism of Christ Medal

The Baptism of Christ is a christening medal in 18-karat yellow gold depicting the scene at the Jordan: Jesus in the water, John the Baptist baptising him, the dove above them.

The scene at the Jordan, in relief

At the centre, Jesus stands in the waters of the Jordan, hands crossed over his chest, head inclined, haloed. To his right, John the Baptist, clothed in animal skin, holds the long reed cross in his left hand and, with his right, pours water over Jesus's head. Above, the dove of the Spirit descends in a burst of light. To the left, two angels kneeling on the bank hold Christ's garments; behind them, a palm tree; to the right, the rocks of the bank. It is the Gospel account, which our sculptor composed as a complete scene, with its successive planes, the water, the figures, the sky. For a christening medal, it is the most direct subject there is: the child receives the sacrament that Jesus himself received.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, the Baptism of Christ is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, the only technique that can render a multi-figure scene with this crispness, then given a satin finish. The gold weight is 2.90 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.

Engraving and variations

Offered in 18 mm, the classic size for a christening medal, the one worn for a lifetime. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The Baptism of Christ is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver, in silver and mother-of-pearl, in vermeil and in gold plate, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
