Virgin and Blessing Child Medal

This christening medal in 18-karat yellow gold depicts the Virgin and Child in a rare gesture: the Child, presented by his mother, opens his arms wide to bless.

A Virgin and Child who blesses

Mary is seen in three-quarter view, a veil over her hair, a radiant halo behind her head. She holds the Child before her, nestled against her tunic, one hand beneath him; he, upright, arms spread wide, looks straight ahead, haloed with rays as well. It is not the mother who is at the centre of the scene but the Child's gesture: the open arms of the one who welcomes and blesses. Our sculptor gave both radiant halos the same design, like a single shared light. A christening medal whose meaning is immediate: the child being presented is blessed.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, the Blessing Virgin and Child is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, for a crisp and lasting relief, then satin-finished. The gold weight is 2.95 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.

Engraving and variations

Offered in 18 mm, the classic size for a christening medal, the one worn for a lifetime. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The Blessing Virgin and Child is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver, in silver and mother-of-pearl and in gold plate, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
