Virgin and Child Medal

This Radiant Virgin and Child is a gold-plated christening medal depicting Mary and Jesus beneath two great radiant halos, which give the scene its light.

A radiant Virgin and Child

It is the halos that strike first: two suns engraved in rays, one behind Mary, the other behind the Child, meeting at the centre of the medal. Mary wears a veil over her hair and a garment whose drapery falls to the edge; she lowers her gaze to her son, whom she holds against her. The Child, nestled in her arms, raises his head to her and reaches his hand towards the Virgin. Something like a restrained smile can be read on Mary's face. Our sculptor played on the contrast between the engraved radiance of the halos and the soft modelling of the faces.

Mayaud gold plate

This medal is made in Mayaud gold plate: a French-made solid gilded brass base, struck under the same engraved die as the gold version, covered with a 3-micron layer of 18-karat (750/1000) gold. Made in our Paris workshop.

Diameter, engraving and variations

Offered in 18 mm, the classic size. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. This Virgin and Child is also available in solid yellow gold, in gold and mother-of-pearl and in silver and mother-of-pearl.
