Virgin and Child Medal

This Virgin and Child, known as The Bond, is a gold-plated christening medal depicting Mary holding the Child on her arm, her hand closed around her son's little hand.

A Virgin and Child, hand in hand

Mary is seen in profile, turned to the left, a veil over long wavy hair falling down her shoulder, a halo of a fine line behind her head. She carries the Child seated on her arm, wrapped in a cloth; he, haloed too, turns his face to her and reaches out his hand, which she takes in hers. It is this gesture, the two hands joined at the centre of the medal, that gives the model its name: the bond between a mother and her child, held and returned. The drapery of the tunic and veil frames the scene and leads the eye to the hands. Exclusive Manufacture Mayaud creation.

Mayaud gold plate

This medal is made in Mayaud gold plate: a French-made solid gilded brass base, struck under the same engraved die as the gold version, covered with a 3-micron layer of 18-karat (750/1000) gold. Made in our Paris workshop.

Diameter and engraving
