Virgin Medal La Pieta

The Pieta is a gold-plated medal depicting the face of the Virgin Mary, bowed, eyes lowered, as seen in the Pietà: the mother looking at her son.

A Virgin Mary's face, bowed

The medal shows only Mary's face and shoulders, in three-quarter view, her head inclined downwards. A veil over her hair, with finely worked folds, frames a young, grave face, eyelids lowered; the tunic, with its pleated collar, closes the composition. No halo, no inscription: only this gaze descending towards what the medal does not show. This face recalls the one Michelangelo gave the Virgin of his Pietà, in St Peter's in Rome, a very young Mary of silent sorrow. A medal for contemplation more than for a christening: given to a mother, a godmother, someone going through a trial.

Mayaud gold plate

This medal is made in Mayaud gold plate: a French-made solid gilded brass base, struck under the same engraved die as the gold version, covered with a 3-micron layer of 18-karat (750/1000) gold. Made in our Paris workshop.

Diameter, engraving and variations

Offered in 18 mm, the classic size. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name, date or a few words, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The Pieta is also available in solid yellow gold, in gold and mother-of-pearl and in solid silver.
