This 18-karat yellow gold christening medal depicts the Virgin and Child in a face-to-face of great intimacy: Mary looks at her son, and the Child, close against her, rests his forehead on hers.

A Virgin and Child, forehead to forehead

Mary is seen in profile, her hair partly covered by a veil with fine waves falling to her shoulder. She looks at the Child, close by, her eyes lowered towards him. He reaches up towards her, one hand clasped to his mother's collar, his face raised to hers: the two foreheads touch. It is no longer the mother who carries the child, it is the child who comes seeking his mother. There is in this gesture something every parent knows: that moment when the little one clings on and rests their head against you. Our sculptor captured it without adding anything; the background of the medal stays smooth, leaving the two faces to occupy all the light.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, this Virgin and Child is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, giving a crisp and lasting relief, then given a satin finish to soften the reflections. Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size, discreet on a newborn and still fitting into adolescence; the 18 mm is the classic size, the one worn for a lifetime. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The same Virgin and Child is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver and in gold plate, to pair with an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
