Virgin and Child Medal Le Regard

This christening medal in 18-karat yellow gold is the only one of our Virgin and Child medals to be set within a landscape: the loving gaze of a mother for her child, and of the child for its mother, before a flowering branch and a horizon of hills.

A Virgin and Child in a garden

Mary is seen in three-quarter view, her hair braided beneath a light veil that falls onto her shoulder. She has brought her face close to that of the Child, whom she holds against her; he, nestled in her arms facing her, raises his hand to her cheek. Their two gazes meet a few millimetres from one another, filled with love, and it is from this exchange that the medal takes its name. Behind them, our sculptor has engraved a tall stem of lily in bloom and, further away, a landscape of hills beneath a smooth sky: the scene takes place outdoors, in a garden, and this breathing space gives the medal a particular softness. The lily is the flower of Mary, symbol of her purity; it also recalls the Annunciation.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, Le Regard is obtained by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck beneath an engraved die, which allows both the landscape in light relief and the faces in volume to be rendered, then satin-finished. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm, 2.90 g in 18 mm and 4.40 g in 20 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.

Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size; the 20 mm gives the landscape all its legibility and suits everyday wear. The smooth reverse accommodates an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. Le Regard exists in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver and in gold-plated, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
