Magnificent Virgin Medal
The Magnificent Virgin is an 18-karat yellow gold christening medal depicting the Virgin Mary face on, hands joined, her gaze turned towards the one looking at her.
A Virgin Mary who looks at you
Mary is seen in three-quarter view, almost face on, a veil resting on her hair and framing her face down to the shoulders. Unlike most of our Virgins, she does not lower her eyes: she looks straight ahead, calmly, and this direct gaze gives the medal all its presence. Her hands are joined low, against her chest, in a discreet gesture of prayer. She is also a Virgin of the Annunciation: this open gaze and these hands drawn to the heart are those of Mary at the moment the angel speaks to her, between astonishment and consent. The halo surrounding her is bordered with a scallop of small arcs. The name of the model says the rest: it is a Virgin Mary medal of fine bearing, understated and assured, for a christening as much as for everyday wear.
A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold
Like all our gold medals, the Magnificent Virgin is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, for a crisp and lasting relief, then given a satin finish. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm and 2.90 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.
Diameter, engraving and variations
The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The Magnificent Virgin is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver and in silver and mother-of-pearl, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
