The Antique Madonna is an 18-karat yellow gold christening medal depicting the Virgin Mary face on, eyes lowered, beneath a radiant halo with a beaded border, in the spirit of medals of old.

A Virgin Mary in the old style

Mary is seen face on, a veil resting on her hair, which reveals wavy locks parted in the middle. She lowers her eyes, her face grave and gentle. Her dress closes with a wide beaded collar, and the drapery of the tunic falls in regular folds to the edge. The halo, engraved in fine rays, is ringed with a row of beads: it is this detail, together with the frontal portrait, that gives the medal its air of a medal from another time, the kind found in grandmothers' jewellery boxes. An exclusive creation of Manufacture Mayaud, registered design.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, the Antique Madonna is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, for a crisp and lasting relief, then given a satin finish. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm and 2.90 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.

Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The Antique Madonna is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, in solid silver and in gold plate, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
