La Maternité is a christening medal in 18-karat yellow gold depicting the Virgin and Child in the first days: a swaddled newborn held close to his mother, and Mary's gaze raised to heaven.

A Virgin and Child of the first days

The Child is tiny, wrapped in his swaddling clothes, his head resting against the breast of his mother, who holds him with both hands. Mary does not look at him: she raises her eyes to Heaven, to give thanks to the One who deserves it for the arrival of this child so unique. Our sculptor gave both figures a radiant halo, the Child's in straight rays, Mary's fuller, framing her face. The modelling of the veil and swaddling clothes is fine, almost textile. This christening medal speaks first of all to the parents of a newborn; it is also often offered to a young mother, to celebrate motherhood itself.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

La Maternité is struck, bail included, from a solid 750/1000 gold blank under an engraved die, giving a crisp, lasting relief, then satin-finished. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm, 2.90 g in 18 mm and 4.40 g in 20 mm. Exclusive registered design by Manufacture Mayaud, made in France.

Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size; the 20 mm, bolder, suits a mother who wishes to wear it every day. The smooth reverse can be engraved with a first name and date, done in our workshop with the engraving package. La Maternité is available in gold and mother-of-pearl and in solid silver, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
