Virgin of Adoration Medal
The Virgin Adoration is a christening medal in mother-of-pearl and 18-karat gold that takes up the profile of a Virgin by Fra Filippo Lippi, the Lippina, one of the most beautiful faces of the Florentine Renaissance.
A Virgin Mary from Florence, in mother-of-pearl
Mary is seen in profile, turned to the right, her head slightly inclined, eyes lowered, absorbed. Her hairstyle is that of the Florentine ladies of the fifteenth century: hair drawn back, braided and held by a transparent veil embroidered with pearls, with a curled lock at the temple; a halo drawn in a single line passes behind her head. The collar of the dress is finely worked. It is the portrait of the Lippina, the Virgin and Child painted by Filippo Lippi around 1460 and kept at the Uffizi, in Florence, in which some have wished to recognise Lucrezia Buti, with whom the painter had fallen in love. Lippi was Botticelli's master, and one understands, looking at this profile, where the elegance of his pupil's Madonnas comes from. Our sculptor transposed this face into relief, in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl whose pallor is that of the painting; the gold rim gives it its frame.
Jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl, rimmed in 18-karat gold
Natural extra-white mother-of-pearl of jewellery grade, carved in our workshop and set in an 18-karat yellow gold rim, bail included, from 1.30 g of gold in 18 mm to 1.60 g in 24 mm. Rim in polished finish. Made to order in our Paris workshop, within 2 to 3 days.
Diameters
From 18 to 24 mm: the 18 mm for a christening, the 20 and 22 mm for everyday wear, the 24 mm as a pendant, which leaves the hairstyle all its fineness. To be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
