The Miraculous Virgin
The Miraculous Medal is the most widespread Marian medal in the world, and our 18-karat yellow gold version reproduces it faithfully, as it was asked for at the rue du Bac, in Paris, in 1830.
The medal of the rue du Bac
On the front, Mary stands upon the globe, arms open and turned downwards, her hands radiating graces, her foot crushing the serpent; around her runs the prayer she herself dictated: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee", and beneath her feet the date, 1830. On the back, the M of Mary surmounted by a cross, surrounded by twelve stars, and below the two Hearts, that of Jesus crowned with thorns and that of Mary pierced by a sword. Nothing is left to chance: every element comes from the vision of Catherine Labouré, a novice of the Daughters of Charity, on 27 November 1830, in the chapel of the rue du Bac. The medal struck two years later was so quickly associated with graces that it was called miraculous. Ours respects the original design, the oval, the prayer, the stars; it is the christening medal par excellence, the one that places a child under Mary's protection.
A medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold
Like all our gold medals, the Miraculous Medal is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under two engraved dies, front and back, which gives the prayer and the stars their crispness, then given a satin finish. The gold weight ranges from 0.85 g in 9 mm to 3.95 g in 21 mm. Made in France.
Seven heights, for every age
The Miraculous Medal is offered in seven oval heights, bail not included: 9 and 11 mm for a newborn or a bracelet, 13 and 15 mm for a christening and childhood, 17 and 19 mm for adult wear, 21 mm as a pendant. As the back is entirely engraved with the monogram and the stars, this medal cannot be personalised. To be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
