Notre Dame de Paris Rosette Medal
In brief: the south rose window of Notre-Dame de Paris, known as the Rose du Midi, is one of the cathedral's three great rose windows: given by Saint Louis in the 13th century, it was restored by Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century. Read our guide to cathedral rose windows.
Notre-Dame de Paris Rose Window Medal crafted in solid 925/1000 silver.
The Rose du Midi, pierced in silver
The medal takes up the great rose of the south transept of Notre-Dame de Paris, the Rose du Midi given by Saint Louis in the thirteenth century, entirely pierced in solid silver: the central quatrefoil, the spokes, the two rings of trefoils and quatrefoils, all cut open, and light passes through the medal as it passes through the stained glass. The polished silver gives this stone network the clarity of lace.
