What does the Jerusalem cross represent?

The Jerusalem cross, or Crusaders' cross, traditionally represents the five wounds of Christ, or Christ surrounded by the four Evangelists carrying his word to the four corners of the world. It has been worn since the Middle Ages by pilgrims and knights returning from the Holy Land, as a token of their journey to Jerusalem.

This cross is made of a large central cross potent, cantoned at each of its four corners by an identical small cross — five crosses in all. It remains today one of the most widely worn Christian jewels, for men or women, with no link to a particular saint or first name.
