This christening medal in 18-karat yellow gold depicts the Virgin and Child face to face, in a moment of great intimacy: Mary gazes at her son, and the Child, nestled against her, rests his forehead on hers.

A Virgin and Child, forehead to forehead

Mary is seen in profile, her hair partly covered by a finely rippled veil that falls over her shoulder. She gazes at the Child, close beside her, her eyes lowered towards him. He pulls himself up towards her, one hand clutching his mother's collar, his face raised to hers: the two foreheads touch. It is no longer the mother carrying the child, but the child reaching out for his mother. There is something in this gesture that every parent knows: that moment when a little one clings to you and rests their head against you. Our sculptor captured it without adding a thing; the background of the medal is left smooth so that the two faces can fill all the light.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, this Virgin and Child is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, giving a crisp, lasting relief, then satin-finished to soften the reflections. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm and 2.90 g in 18 mm. Exclusive design by Manufacture Mayaud, made in France.

Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size, discreet on a newborn and still just right in adolescence; the 18 mm is the classic size, the one worn for a lifetime. The smooth reverse can be engraved with a first name and date, done in our workshop with the engraving package. The same Virgin and Child is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, to be paired with an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
