Virgin and Child
This 18-karat yellow gold christening medal depicts the Virgin and Child in a gesture every parent recognises: the child nestled in the arms of his mother, raising his hand to her face.
A Virgin and Child, the hand reaching for his mother's loving face
Mary wears a soft veil over her hair, falling onto her shoulders, and tilts her face towards her son. The child is nestled in her arms, held by her hand; he looks at her and places his little hand near her gentle face, as if to draw her gaze to him. Two halos drawn with a fine line intersect behind the heads. Our sculptor has taken great care with the drape of the mantle and the veil, whose folds frame the scene and lead the eye towards the two faces. It is a Virgin and Child that is very classic in its composition, and very alive in its detail: the child's hand, the mother's lowered gaze, are enough to express maternal love.
A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold
Like all our gold medals, this Virgin and Child is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, for a crisp and lasting relief, then given a satin finish to soften the reflections. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm and 2.90 g in 18 mm. Made in France, in our workshop.
Diameter, engraving and variations
The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size, the one worn for a lifetime. The smooth reverse takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The same Virgin and Child is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
