This christening medal in 18-karat yellow gold shows the Virgin and Child beneath a star: Mary holds Jesus before her, in her arms, and the Child reaches out to her.

A Virgin and Child beneath the star

Mary, in profile, a veil resting on her hair and falling down her back, lifts the Child to the level of her gaze; he sits in her arms, turned towards her, and reaches out to her. Each wears a halo traced in a fine line, and above them shines a four-pointed star, the star of Bethlehem that guided the Magi to the Child. The composition is that of a presentation: the mother gazing at her child as one gazes at a gift. This is what makes this medal so fitting for a christening, where the child is in turn presented, and where the star says without words what we wish for him: to be guided.

A christening medal struck in the traditional way in 18-karat gold

Like all our gold medals, the Starry Virgin and Child is made by stamping: the 750/1000 gold blank is struck under an engraved die, for a crisp, lasting relief, then satin-finished. The gold weight is 2.30 g in 16 mm and 2.90 g in 18 mm. Exclusive design by Manufacture Mayaud, made in France.

Diameter, engraving and variations

The 16 mm is the christening size; the 18 mm, the classic size that lasts a lifetime. The smooth reverse can be engraved with a first name and date, done in our workshop with the engraving package. The same Starry Virgin and Child is available in gold and mother-of-pearl, to be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.
