The Royal Cross
The Royal Cross is an openwork pendant cross in 18-karat yellow gold, whose arms, pierced with Gothic tracery, end in fleurs-de-lys.
A Gothic cross, with fleur-de-lys ends
A Latin cross entirely cut through: each arm is a frame within which runs a tracery of quatrefoils and arches, around a central quatrefoil. The four ends flower into fleurs-de-lys, the emblem of the kings of France, which gives the cross its name and its bearing. It is the design of processional crosses and cathedral tracery, reduced to a pendant: light passes through the gold, and the cross stays light despite its size.
