Notre-Dame d'Amiens, the largest cathedral in France, has three rose windows, each with its own name: the Rose de la Mer on the west facade, the Rose du Ciel to the south, the Rose des Vents to the north. The medal takes up the Rose de la Mer, the great flamboyant rose of the facade, completed around 1500: a radiating heart from which spring lancets and mouchettes, those flame-shaped forms of late Gothic, blossoming to the edge in a network of extreme fineness. It is one of our most delicate rose windows to carve in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl, since every curve must remain legible at 20 mm; it is also one of the most luminous, the gold rim closing this foliage of stone.

The know-how of Mayaud rose windows

Manufacture Mayaud is the only workshop in the world to make cathedral rose windows in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl. Each rose window takes many hours of work: the tracery is drawn from the rose itself, then carved and engraved in mother-of-pearl at the scale of a medal, without simplifying anything. It is a complex know-how, developed in our Paris workshop, of which we are very proud, and which we inaugurated with the Notre-Dame de Paris rose window, the first ever offered in mother-of-pearl and 750/1000 gold. Registered design filed with the INPI, 100% made in France.

Natural extra-white mother-of-pearl of jewellery grade, set in an 18-karat yellow gold rim, bail included, from 1.40 g of gold in 20 mm to 1.70 g in 26 mm. Rim in polished finish.

Diameters and variations

Four diameters, 20, 22, 24 and 26 mm: the larger the medal, the more finely the flamboyant tracery can be read. The Amiens rose window is also available in mother-of-pearl and solid silver. To be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Amiens rose window medal be engraved? Yes: the reverse of the mother-of-pearl is smooth and takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package.

Which diameter to choose? The 20 mm for a christening or a child, the 22 or 24 mm for everyday wear, the 26 mm to read the tracery in all its fineness, as a pendant.
