The medal takes up a rose of Saint-André cathedral in Bordeaux, the cathedral where Eleanor of Aquitaine married the future Louis VII in 1137, and a UNESCO World Heritage site on the Way of Saint James. Its design is flamboyant: from a four-lobed heart spring soufflets and flame-shaped mouchettes, doubling and branching to the edge in a foliage of stone. Our sculptor transposed this tracery into mother-of-pearl, whose translucency renders the light of stained glass; the gold rim closes the rose. A Bordeaux rose window medal, for the people of Bordeaux and for those who have looked up beneath the Pey-Berland tower.

The know-how of Mayaud rose windows

Manufacture Mayaud is the only workshop in the world to make cathedral rose windows in jewellery-grade mother-of-pearl. Each rose window takes many hours of work: the tracery is drawn from the rose itself, then carved and engraved in mother-of-pearl at the scale of a medal, without simplifying anything. It is a complex know-how, developed in our Paris workshop, of which we are very proud, and which we inaugurated with the Notre-Dame de Paris rose window, the first ever offered in mother-of-pearl and 750/1000 gold. Natural extra-white mother-of-pearl of jewellery grade, set in an 18-karat yellow gold rim, bail included, from 1.40 g of gold in 20 mm to 1.70 g in 26 mm. Rim in polished finish.

Diameters and variations

Four diameters, 20, 22, 24 and 26 mm: the larger the medal, the more finely the flamboyant tracery can be read. The Bordeaux rose window is also available in silver and mother-of-pearl, in openwork solid 18-karat gold and in openwork solid silver. To be worn on an 18-karat yellow gold trace chain.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Bordeaux rose window medal be engraved? Yes, in mother-of-pearl and gold: the reverse of the mother-of-pearl is smooth and takes an engraving, first name and date, carried out in the workshop with the engraving package. The openwork versions in solid gold and silver cannot be engraved.

Which diameter to choose? The 20 mm for a christening or a child, the 22 or 24 mm for everyday wear, the 26 mm to read the tracery in all its fineness, as a pendant.
